Ananta Took the Stage at Gamescom 2026 with a New Trailer
Ananta, developed by NetEase Games and Naked Rain, reappeared with new footage during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The open-world RPG, previously announced as Project Mugen, hadn’t had a new presentation in a long time. The Gamescom presentation, however, gave a closer look at both the city life and the activities that can be done with different characters.
Ananta Transforms Nova City into a Giant Playground
In Ananta, players will be able to control different characters in a large city called Nova City. The city won’t just be a map for navigating between missions; different neighborhoods, from business districts to backstreets, can be explored. Players can form their own teams, interact with characters in the city, and get involved in various events.
One of the game’s most prominent features is its freedom of movement. Characters can swing between buildings on cables, climb walls, parkour, and drive vehicles. Previous presentations also showed various transportation options such as cycling, driving, and swimming. Because of this structure, Ananta is often positioned somewhere between GTA and Spider-Man.
The Gamescom presentation also reiterated the game’s tone. Ananta doesn’t just tell a serious urban story; paranormal events, absurd situations, and everyday city life intertwine in the same world. Players can either pursue hidden threats or spend time in Nova City’s nightlife.
Ananta is planned for PlayStation 5, PC, and mobile platforms. Along with the new trailer at Gamescom, it was also announced that the game will be released in 2027. NetEase’s long-awaited project continues to be one of the most anticipated open-world games at the event, thanks to its urban freedom and anime aesthetic.
