Some Women have Started Banning Their Boyfriends from Playing GTA 6
Rockstar Games’ release of Extended Look footage, which extensively featured the relationship between Jason and Lucia, sparked an unexpected debate on social media. Some TikTok users began expressing their opposition to their boyfriends or husbands playing GTA 6, citing the game’s romantic options, dates, strip clubs, and other adult content. While some videos were humorous, others appeared quite serious.
GTA 6 Emerges in TikTok Relationship Debate
One of the most widely shared videos belongs to content creator Shelby Haas. Haas stated she wouldn’t allow her fiancé to play GTA 6, citing concerns about potential problems if Jason didn’t respond to Lucia’s messages, the possibility of the couple going on dates, and the presence of adult-oriented locations in the game. The video quickly garnered over 800,000 views, fueling the growing debate.
Similar videos began appearing on social media. Some directly stated, “If he plays GTA, he’s no longer my boyfriend,” while others mocked the trend. Two opposing sides have emerged in the comments. One group says they are uncomfortable with the game’s content, while the other argues that it is merely a fictional video game and should not be confused with real relationships.
One of the key points of contention is the interpretation of Jason and Lucia’s relationship as the game’s mandatory main objective. According to information shared from initial previews, how much players develop the romantic bond between the two will largely depend on their choices. Moreover, Lucia is also a playable main character, meaning the game doesn’t only revolve around Jason’s romantic choices.
The GTA series has always been based on giving players ample freedom of movement, and GTA 6 seems to expand on this approach with more detailed relationship systems. It’s difficult to discern how many of the “GTA 6 ban” videos on TikTok are serious and how many are purely for interaction. However, if the game managed to spark such a debate about relationships before its release, it wouldn’t be surprising to see even more interesting reactions on social media after its launch on November 19th.
