GTA 6 Weapon Menu Found “Soulless” by Players

Rockstar’s approximately 30-minute GTA 6 Extended Look showcased many new systems, from police chases to the relationship between Jason and Lucia. While the open world, animations, and environmental details were largely well-received, the game’s user interface became the focus of debate. The most criticized aspect was the new design of the weapon menu, a long-standing feature of the series.

GTA 6’s Minimalist Weapon Menu Draws Criticism

The new weapon menu in GTA 6 uses a very simple design divided into boxes, replacing the circular and more characteristic structure of previous games. The interface, where weapon icons are placed within these boxes, was found by some players to be too simplistic compared to the game’s overall visual quality. Comments such as “soulless,” “ugly,” and “too generic” began appearing on social media.

A significant portion of the criticism stems from comparisons to GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Specifically, while Red Dead Redemption 2’s interface boasts a visual language consistent with its Western atmosphere, GTA 6’s menus are considered to fail to adequately reflect the game’s Vice City identity. Some players initially thought the leaked design was a temporary interface, but Extended Look confirmed that the current structure is indeed being used in the game.

Similar comments are emerging on Reddit as well. While some players generally find the Extended Look very successful, others say the weapon menu is difficult to read and visually weak. Conversely, there are also those who appreciate the minimalist approach. So, the design hasn’t bothered everyone, but the GTA 6 interface has become one of the most controversial aspects of the presentation.

It’s still unknown to what extent Rockstar will change the weapon menu before release. Since the user interface can be updated even in the final stages of development, it’s difficult to say that the current design completely represents the final version. However, because it’s a system players will constantly use throughout the game, the weapon menu stands out much more than other impressive details of GTA 6.
