The GTA 6 Trailer Greatly Boosted Netflix’s US Viewership

Rockstar Games’ decision to release the GTA 6 Extended Look preview on Netflix was initially met with considerable debate. However, new data shows that this collaboration generated a significant increase in traffic for Netflix. According to Sensor Tower data, Netflix mobile viewership in the US increased by 35% hourly during the preview, while the total number of users significantly exceeded the average for the same hour over the previous 12 Thursdays.

GTA 6 Instantly Boosts Netflix Traffic

According to data shared by Sensor Tower, Netflix’s US mobile app viewership increased by 35% during the GTA 6 preview. The number of users in the same time period increased by 50% compared to the average of the previous 12 Thursdays. These figures show that the preview not only attracted existing subscribers but also generated new user interest for the platform.

The increase on the web side is even more striking. During the screening, Netflix’s internet traffic reportedly rose 125% above the normal average. This surge also caused access problems on the platform, and some users had difficulty accessing the stream. So, GTA 6 not only boosted viewership but also severely strained Netflix’s infrastructure for a short period.

According to Sensor Tower senior analyst Abe Yousef, this partnership helped Netflix position itself not just as a series and movie platform, but as a broader entertainment hub. It’s also noted that the promotion attracted users who weren’t yet subscribed to Netflix. For Rockstar, the game reached a wider audience beyond the classic YouTube and social media audience.

Following the Extended Look, interest in GTA 6 was already at a very high level. Many features, such as the new animation systems, character relationships, open-world details, and crime mechanics, continue to be discussed individually after the screening. The Netflix choice, which initially seemed controversial, appears to have turned into a very powerful marketing move for both Rockstar and Netflix, based on the available data.
