PS5 Pro Might Disappoint Players Expecting 60 FPS in GTA 6

Following Rockstar Games’ new gameplay demonstration, discussions have begun about the performance targets for GTA 6 on consoles. According to shared information, the studio is developing the game with a 30 FPS target for launch on consoles. It was thought that the PS5 Pro, due to its more powerful hardware, might offer a 60 FPS option, but technical evaluations show that this won’t be as easy as expected.

GTA 6 May Not Reach 60 FPS Even on PS5 Pro

According to Digital Foundry’s assessment, GTA 6’s real limitation lies more in the processor than the graphics card power. In the game’s massive open world, NPCs, physics calculations, vehicles, and other simulation systems are running simultaneously. Because this load is directly on the CPU, a more powerful GPU alone cannot increase the frame rate from 30 to 60 FPS.

The PS5 Pro’s processor offers approximately 7% more performance compared to the base PS5. Such a difference doesn’t seem likely to double the frame rate in a CPU-limited game. Therefore, it’s more probable that the PS5 Pro’s extra power will be used in areas like PSSR image upscaling, ray tracing, and resolution improvements.

Some image issues, particularly flickering around the edges of fine objects and in vegetation, have been noticed in Extended Look images. Scenes showing blurriness and noise in ray tracing reflections are also present. The PS5 Pro’s more powerful GPU could be used to clean up these issues, make the image more stable, and improve ray tracing quality.

It’s not yet confirmed whether Rockstar will prepare a different performance option for the PS5 Pro. Technically, an intermediate mode like 40 FPS is considered a more realistic possibility, but it’s important to note that this is not a confirmed feature. Based on current information, those expecting to play GTA 6 at 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro may need to lower their expectations somewhat.
