IO Interactive Spoke Positively about Project Fantasy
While IO Interactive is known for Hitman and the upcoming 007 First Light, one of the studio’s most anticipated long-term projects is Project Fantasy. Developed as an online fantasy RPG, the new IP has been the target of some rumors since its announcement due to the lack of details shared. Questions arose, particularly regarding the project’s funding, but a new statement from the studio is quite positive.
Project Fantasy is Safe in Development
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak briefly touched on the status of Project Fantasy in an interview with The Game Business. Abrak did not reveal the identity of the project’s partner and neither confirmed nor denied Xbox’s involvement. However, he stated that the game is “in a very healthy place,” is still funded, and is progressing impressively.
This statement significantly weakens rumors that Project Fantasy has been shelved or is experiencing financial difficulties. Given that IO Interactive is simultaneously working on a major licensed game like 007 First Light, their silence on Project Fantasy had been met with concern by some players. However, the studio has clearly stated that the project is still active.
Currently, there aren’t many concrete details about Project Fantasy. What is known is that the game will be an online fantasy RPG designed to expand over many years. IO Interactive previously described the project as an unusual journey for them, but one with deep personal roots. Fantasy books, tabletop role-playing games, and the idea of building a world together are cited as key inspirations.
