Colin Farrell will Determine the Fate of The Penguin’s Second Season

The Penguin, with its first season released in 2024, became one of HBO’s most successful DC projects. The series won nine out of 24 Emmy nominations, and Cristin Milioti achieved significant success with her performance. Despite this, there is still no official confirmation for a second season. The main reason for this is that the production was planned as a limited series from the beginning, and Colin Farrell has not yet made a definitive decision about returning to the role of Oz Cobb.

The Penguin Season 2: Colin Farrell’s Decision Awaited

The series creator, Lauren LeFranc, previously stated that she had completed the story as a single-season project. However, she added that she is not entirely closed to returning to this world if the right storyline is found. Matt Reeves also mentioned that discussions were underway regarding a possible second season, but no concrete developments have been announced since then.

Colin Farrell, however, is more cautious about the matter. The actor has openly stated in the past that he “didn’t have a great desire” to make a second season, later indicating he wouldn’t be opposed to continuing if an idea could maintain the level of the first season. In short, Farrell is currently neither a complete yes nor a complete no.

HBO executive Casey Bloys also acknowledges the difficulty. Farrell has other projects and will also reprise his role as Penguin in The Batman Part II. Therefore, there are still serious question marks surrounding a second season, both in terms of schedule and creative considerations.

While a rumor surfaced in June that the show wouldn’t continue, neither HBO nor DC has officially confirmed this. For now, the only thing certain is that The Penguin hasn’t been canceled, but a second season hasn’t been renewed either. It seems the project’s revival largely depends on whether Colin Farrell can be persuaded to play Oz Cobb for another season.
