Potential Upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters Revealed
Creative director and franchise co-creator Ed Boon has teased potential upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters on Twitter with the new Khaos Reigns expansion.
Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters Revealed
Kameo fighters mechanic, which allows players to select a secondary supporting character from a separate roster to help in battle. These Kameos are mainly pulled from the classic Mortal Kombat timeline and can be called into the fight with a button press, opening the door for all kinds of new attack combinations. The base Mortal Kombat 1 roster included 15 Kameo fighters, with new ones introduced alongside the main DLC fighters throughout Kombat Pack 1. Now that the second Mortal Kombat 1 DLC wave has been confirmed, many are wondering if this trend will continue – and more importantly, what new Kameos could be added as Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor, Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian all make their Mortal Kombat 1 debut in the new round of post-launch content.
Ed Boon recently addressed this in a Twitter post, revealing that NetherRealm’s design team had a meeting where a few ideas for Kameo Fighters for Mortal Kombat 1’s second year of content were thrown around. Some of the names that were brought up in the discussion were Blanche (the old lady that could be used as a weapon in Mortal Kombat 10’s Outworld Marketplace stage), Kidd Thunder (Raiden’s young “nephew” that he summoned to assist with his Friendship finisher in Mortal Kombat 2), Invincible (son of Mortal Kombat 1 DLC fighter Omni-Man and hero of the animated series of the same name), and Chucky the Killer Doll.
Ed Boon hasn’t officially confirmed that any of these characters will be added to Mortal Kombat 1, but he did note the potential for fun team-ups should they become DLC Kameos in the future. He also included a poll in his Twitter post that lets fans vote for the character they would most like to see, with Invincible currently leading. Chucky is a close second, with Blanche and Kidd Thunder taking the last two ranks.
Given that there was a new Kameo fighter added to Mortal Kombat 1 with every Kombat Pack 1 DLC character, it stands to reason that NetherRealm will continue to introduce new support Kombatants in Khaos Reigns. So far, the Kameos have all hailed from Mortal Kombat, so it will be interesting to see if Invincible or Chucky actually do make it into the Mortal Kombat 1 roster in the future. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the Khaos Reigns story campaign, which is coming on September 24.
