The reviews are in and FromSoftware has not disappointed again. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is the first and only expansion pack for the main game, introducing new areas, boss fights and more. The DLC received a perfect score of 95 Metascore on Metacritic and has been out for less than a day.

If we look at other DLCs that are considered “best” in the gaming world, The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine has a Metascore of 92, Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty has a Metascore of 89 and Bloodborne’s The Old Hunters has a Metascore of 87. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has achieved a monumental feat by surpassing these scores.

While there’s no word on sales figures yet, the DLC’s high scores have made it the best-rated release of 2024. Shadow of the Erdtree further enriches Elden Ring with the addition of new weapons, zones and bosses.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was released on June 20, 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The base game, Elden Ring, was released in February 2022 and earned the title of “The Greatest Soulsborne Game Ever Made”.
