The Witcher 3 Outperformed All Other New Games at Gamescom

CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past expansion, announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live, achieved one of the strongest comebacks of the event. According to estimated data shared by Alinea Analytics, the expansion garnered 451,000 new wishlists on Steam during Gamescom, surpassing all other new games shown at the event. Moreover, it achieved this as new content for a game released in 2015, now 10 years old.

The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past Reaches 451,000 Wishlists

According to Alinea Analytics’ data based on increases between August 23-30, Songs of the Past collected 451,000 new wishlists. Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons came in second with 379,000, and Ananta was third with 302,000. LEGO Skylines reached 273,000, and Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake remained at 189,000.

Further down the list, WARDOGS reached 146,000 new wishlists, AFTERWORLD 121,000, Metro 2039 110,000, and The Blood of Dawnwalker 108,000. Thus, The Witcher 3’s new expansion pack surpassed both entirely new games and the return of strong franchises.

One of the key reasons for the interest at Gamescom was that CD Projekt Red announced not only the new expansion pack but also The Witcher 3 Remastered update. The gameplay demonstration for Songs of the Past, promising a more classic Witcher experience with Geralt back at the center, directly appealed to veteran players.

It’s important to remember that Alinea Analytics data is based on estimated analyses, not official Steam figures. Nevertheless, the picture is quite striking. The fact that The Witcher 3, even after 10 years, is the most wishlisted game at Gamescom clearly demonstrates the strong player base the series still has.
