75% of PlayStation 3 Games are Now Playable on PC
The open-source RPCS3 project, focused on preserving PlayStation 3 games, has reached a significant milestone. According to the emulator’s compatibility list, developed since 2011, over 75% of PS3 games can now be completed on PC. This development is noteworthy in terms of preserving the accessibility of older titles at a time when digital stores are closing and concerns about the future of physical games are increasing.
A Large Portion of PlayStation 3 Games Work with RPCS3
According to the latest data shared by the RPCS3 team, 75.33% of the tested PlayStation 3 games can be played on PC without any serious issues hindering the gaming experience. This means that more than 2,600 titles are in the compatible category. Users can check the status of specific games on the emulator’s official compatibility page.
Although 22.93% of the tested games run, they are not yet considered fully compatible due to low performance, significant graphical glitches, or problems preventing completion. 1.69% of the sections can be opened but are not playable. The percentage of games that remain on a black screen has dropped to only 0.06%.
RPCS3 runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD systems. The open-source project aims to emulate PlayStation 3 hardware as accurately as possible using reverse engineering methods. The team opposes the use of the emulator for pirated games and wants users to only run copies created from games they legally own.
Sony’s announcements that the PlayStation 3 store will be closed in 2027 and that new physical PlayStation games will cease to be available from 2028 onwards have brought game preservation discussions back to the forefront. RPCS3’s compatibility rate of over 75% provides significant assurance that thousands of PS3 games will remain playable even after official services end.
