Black Flag Resynced Earned $1 Million from Microtransactions
Black Flag Resynced, after achieving high sales figures during its launch period, has now drawn attention with its revenue from in-game purchases. Despite intense criticism from players regarding the expensive DLC packs, it is claimed that microtransactions are generating a significant amount of revenue. This situation once again highlights the discrepancy between community reaction and actual purchasing behavior.
Black Flag Resynced Microtransactions Spark Controversy
According to data shared by an analytics company, Black Flag Resynced has already generated over $1 million in revenue from microtransactions. This amount is generated from the purchase of costumes, equipment, and various in-game content, independent of standard game sales. It is also noted that some users with the premium version have made microtransactions.
Upon its release, the game’s additional content, which reached a total price of up to $90, drew significant backlash. Players criticized the inclusion of so much paid content in a fully-priced title and questioned Ubisoft’s revenue model. Despite this, the rapid increase in microtransaction revenue shows that the backlash didn’t completely change purchasing decisions.
Black Flag Resynced surpassing 2 million sales on its first day and reaching over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam created a large user base for the microtransaction system. While $1 million might seem small in total revenue, this money comes solely from additional purchases made on top of the game. Therefore, it’s considered a highly profitable model for the company.
Ubisoft has been criticized for frequently using microtransactions in its past games. The fact that players continued to purchase content despite the harsh criticism may encourage the company to use similar systems in future projects. Black Flag Resynced’s microtransaction success is another example showing that publishers make decisions based on real spending data rather than criticism.
