Final Fantasy VII Revelation Showcases Massive Battles at Gamescom 2026
Square Enix released a new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The game, which will be the final chapter in the story that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and expanded with Rebirth, brings Cloud and his team together one last time against Sephiroth. The new show clearly indicates that it has no intention of downsizing the scale of the final game; massive weapons, wide open areas, and larger-scale battles make up a large part of the trailer.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Expands Weapon Combat
The star of the new trailer was definitely the weapon encounters. Weapons, known in the Final Fantasy VII universe as the giant beings protecting the planet, will not remain merely a background element in Revelation. The trailer shows Cloud and his team directly fighting these creatures, giving the impression that the conflicts will be on a much larger scale than the boss battles in the previous two games.
The trailer isn’t just about giant creatures. It also shows Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind joining the team as playable characters. Vincent’s rapid attacks with firearms and Cid’s spear-based fighting style seem to bring new options to team combinations. The return of these two characters, who were with us in Rebirth but whom we couldn’t directly control, was a long-awaited development.
There’s also significant expansion on Earth. With Highwind, we’ll be able to take to the skies and travel more freely to different regions on the vast map. Square Enix describes Revelation as the largest-scale installment of the trilogy. Considering the meteor threat, the awakened Weapons, and the approaching final battle with Sephiroth, it’s clear the game will significantly increase its pace on the story side as well.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released simultaneously in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The exact release date has not yet been announced. The Gamescom trailer suggests that the final installment of the trilogy won’t just tie up the story; it’s preparing a grand finale in terms of gameplay as well.
