Because this time, we’re faced with something that many people can’t even stand in real life, and the game uses this to its fullest extent.
Lurking Creates Tension with Giant Spiders
Lurking is a survival horror game developed by Ctrl Freak, and it centers around gigantic, deadly spiders. In the game, we control a character who keeps spiders as pets in their home, but things quickly spiral out of control, and the entire apartment building becomes overrun with these creatures. The story is simple but effective; you’re lucky if you survive.
On the gameplay side, classic horror elements are prominent. Players need to move carefully, remain silent, and use shadows. Because the enemies in the game are not only powerful but also have dynamic AI. This means they react to every action you take, making each encounter more tense.
One of the game’s striking aspects is its visual style. Low-poly graphics create an atmosphere reminiscent of classic horror games, clearly drawing inspiration from classics like Resident Evil. Beneath the seemingly simple visuals lies a deeply disturbing atmosphere.
You’re not defenseless, but you’re not safe either. You can fight these creatures using improvised weapons. For example, a flamethrower-style weapon seen in the trailer can be a lifesaver in desperate moments. However, every encounter is risky, and a single mistake could spell the end.
With approximately 2 hours of gameplay, Lurking aims to offer a short but intense experience. It also features endings that vary depending on different choices. So, despite being a short game, it manages to offer something in terms of replayability.
