Players will have great freedom in how they progress the story, deal with the characters they encounter, and approach combat. As strategists, the most important task for players will be to build and develop an elite team of warriors who can handle adversity.

It will be up to players to form close bonds with and among their team members, sever important friendships, and even repair family ties for some characters. Each potential team member will have their own motivations, desires, and fears, so players will need to carefully consider them as individuals to avoid saying or doing something they can’t take back later.

Although Shadow of the Road’s battles are turn-based, samurai tactics are also evident. Each warrior has powerful abilities that must be used carefully, but it seems that combat ability alone will not be enough to ensure victory. Characters’ personalities and relationships can have tangible effects on combat effectiveness. Therefore, players will need to take this into account in their tactics and overall strategies if they want to achieve victory.
