One of Marvel’s Most Mysterious Villains Could Return with Ghost Rider
Although the Ghost Rider project is still in its early stages, Marvel’s plans for its supernatural universe may be slowly taking shape. The latest rumor surrounding the production, which will feature Ryan Gosling as Johnny Blaze, suggests that Mephisto could be one of the central threats in the story. Furthermore, the character is expected to be more firmly established within the MCU before the Ghost Rider film even begins.
Ghost Rider Could Bring Mephisto Back to the MCU
According to industry insider Alex Perez, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto could play a significant role in the Ghost Rider project. Perez notes that while story details are still very early, Johnny Blaze may already have been operating as Ghost Rider for some time by the time the film begins. This means the character’s origin story might not be told in detail from the start.
A pairing of Mephisto and Ghost Rider would be a very natural choice on the comic book side. The character is known as a hellish entity that makes deals with souls and manipulates people for its own gain. Since Johnny Blaze’s powers also originate from similar dark deals, it wouldn’t be surprising if Marvel brought the two together in the same story.
The rumors aren’t limited to Mephisto. It’s suggested that supernatural villains like Lilith and Blackheart could also be included in the project later on. If Marvel can retain some of the supernatural storylines it previously planned, Ghost Rider could become a significant production that revitalizes this side of the MCU.
For now, none of this has been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios. However, the fact that Mephisto has appeared in the MCU before and fits naturally into the Ghost Rider world doesn’t completely dismiss the rumors. If Ghost Rider truly establishes Mephisto as one of the main threats, the film could not only introduce Johnny Blaze but also open the door to a much larger storyline in the MCU’s supernatural world.
