PlayStation Will Bring Back Old IPs
PlayStation has recently started to be associated with its older brands again. While there are rumors that a new project related to inFamous might be in development, reliable leak source Nate The Hate also suggested that Sony is evaluating some long-unused IPs. There is no official announcement yet, but the possibility of PlayStation looking back at beloved series from the past is quite exciting for veteran players.
PlayStation May Re-evaluate Old Series
Nate The Hate said that Sony is considering some old and long-unused IPs. However, he also stated that he did not include relatively recent brands like Uncharted or Bloodborne in the “old” category. Therefore, it is thought that the projects in question may come from a deeper PlayStation archive. However, it is not yet clear which series are on the table.
One detail that strengthens this possibility is the images that have surfaced around PlayStation’s IP preservation project. The previously shared logo featured long-dormant brands such as Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, Killzone, Ape Escape, and PaRappa the Rapper. This doesn’t directly mean these games will return, but it shows that Sony still considers these series important.
PlayStation’s relegated brands include many series that players still miss, such as Resistance, Syphon Filter, Wild Arms, Jet Moto, Twisted Metal, MediEvil, and PlayStation All-Stars. Especially after Astro Bot’s references to old PlayStation characters, players want this legacy to be more than just a nostalgic nod.
For now, all this information is at the level of rumors and speculation, so caution is advised. However, Sony executives have previously stated openly that past IPs are an important asset. If PlayStation is indeed preparing to bring back old series, it’s possible these projects will come from different teams rather than the original studios. So the dream of a new inFamous, Jak & Daxter, or Ape Escape might be back on the table.
