SteamOS 3.8.25 Beta Released: Here’s What’s New

SteamOS 3.8.25 Beta has been released as a new system update targeting several annoying issues in Valve hardware. Specifically, it fixes problems such as the device waking up immediately after going into sleep mode, while also including significant improvements to HDMI, Wi-Fi, and controllers. The update is currently being tested in Beta and Preview channels.

What’s New in SteamOS 3.8.25 Beta?

One of the most notable fixes addresses an issue that caused the system to wake up spontaneously immediately after going into sleep mode. Valve also fixed a rare bug where CPU performance could remain low until a reboot after the device returned from sleep mode. HDMI audio interruptions experienced in some game and television combinations are also fixed with this update.

The scope is also expanding on the controller side. Support for waking the device via the 2015 Steam Controller Wireless Adapter has been added. Additionally, the Steam Controller 2026 is now supported with a built-in hid_steam driver. This allows the controller to be used with local applications even when Steam is not running. Initial support is also offered for the Steam Frame Wireless Adapter.

The update fixes a bug that could cause Desktop Mode to freeze when connecting or disconnecting HDMI displays, and reduces startup delays and image flickering on Game Mode-enabled televisions. It also addresses issues with slowdowns or connection freezes seen with some Wi-Fi adapters, as well as the inability to apply previous SteamOS updates.

Devices outside of Valve haven’t been forgotten either. SteamOS 3.8.25 Beta improves support for the MSI Claw, OneXPlayer, and devices without external or Wi-Fi adapters. Gamepad support is added for the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, Konkr FIT, and AYANEO Pocket S2, while OneXPlayer Apex support is also updated with the new firmware. Those who want to try the beta version can go to Settings > System > Beta Enrollment and join the relevant channel.
