Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Openly Challenges GTA 6
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will be released during the same busy launch period as GTA 6, which is expected to be one of the biggest games of the year. While many publishers are avoiding direct competition with Rockstar Games’ new title, Infinity Ward is confident in the strength of its own series. Studio management believes that the release of two major brands around the same time is not a negative development for the industry, but rather an exciting one.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Doesn’t Fear GTA 6
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will be released on October 23, 2026. GTA 6, after two delays, will be available to players on November 19. The fact that there are only a few weeks between the two releases is normally seen as a situation that could increase sales competition. Despite this, Activision chose not to change its traditional end-of-year Call of Duty release schedule.
Infinity Ward Co-Studio Head Mark Grigsby said that releasing a major game always creates significant pressure. Stating that he has been in the industry for nearly 28 years, Grigsby said he feels the responsibility of being creative enough to entertain millions of players with every project. However, he emphasized that this pressure doesn’t stem specifically from GTA 6.
Grigsby also stated that he has been a long-time fan of the Grand Theft Auto series and is looking forward to playing the new game. However, he said they are not afraid of GTA 6, arguing that the presence of giant brands like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, and Fortnite in the same industry is driving the gaming world forward. According to him, direct competition between strong titles can positively impact both developers and players.
The fact that Modern Warfare 4 will not be added to the Game Pass catalog on its release day will allow for a more direct measurement of the game’s sales performance. While it’s not expected to achieve the same commercial success as GTA 6, Call of Duty’s loyal player base gives Infinity Ward confidence. Despite being a massive project from Rockstar, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 aims to be one of the most important games of the year.
