Unhinged, a Horror Game Starring Troy Baker and Sadie Sink, has been Announced
Unhinged has been announced as one of Netflix’s most notable new moves in the gaming sector. Developed by Night School Studio, known for Oxenfree, the game combines a first-person horror experience with a star-studded cast and phone-centric gameplay. Netflix has previously focused on interactive productions and different game experiments, but this time, it aims for a different horror experience where the phone is used as a controller within a more traditional game structure. This choice shows that the platform wants to make room for shorter, more accessible, yet still atmospheric projects in the gaming sector.
Unhinged Will Be Netflix’s Phone-Controlled Horror Experience
Unhinged aims to be more than just a simple remote control for players. In the game, calls and messages will be received via the phone, the environment will be examined with a virtual flashlight, and this structure will become a direct part of the horror atmosphere. In other words, the game will try to transform the phone in the player’s hand into a tension-filled tool of the story, rather than a passive experience in front of the screen.
The cast is also one of the project’s strongest aspects. Troy Baker, one of the most recognizable voice actors in the gaming world, is part of the Unhinged cast. Baker is a name familiar to a wide audience from his roles as Joel in The Last of Us, Jonesy in Fortnite, and Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. He will be joined by Sadie Sink, who rose to fame with Stranger Things. Sink’s audience, accustomed to horror and suspense, could also increase the game’s visibility on Netflix.
The notable names in the cast don’t end there. Zoe Kravitz is also involved in the project. The actress, known for her roles as Catwoman in The Batman and Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, demonstrates Netflix’s intention to position Unhinged not just as a small experimental game, but as a short but intense horror experience that stands out with its actor performances.
Game director Sam Warner says the production is influenced by innovative gameplay ideas from the Nintendo Wii and DS era. The full game will be less than an hour long, but replayability is aimed for through different story branches. Unhinged will be released on Netflix on June 30th, offering an accessible horror experience for users with a Netflix account and a phone. Despite its short duration, the different decision-making paths may elevate the game beyond a one-off experience.
