Bully Players Get Their Hands on a Secret Weapon After 20 Years

Rockstar Games’ 2006 open-world game Bully continues to be scrutinized by players even after all these years. Recently, content creator JustGarrison, who has been trying to complete the game without harming any NPCs, discovered some interesting exploits during this pacifist attempt. Having previously managed to make some mission weapons, such as the sledgehammer and explosive soccer ball, freely roam, the player has now found a way to make a rifle, normally only available in the mini-game, available in the open world.

Bully Back in the Spotlight with Hidden Weapon Discovery

JustGarrison shared his discovery on YouTube, demonstrating how the rifle can be used freely. The remarkable point is that this was done without using any mods or external tools. According to the content creator, the exploit works in all versions of Bully. In other words, it’s not about modifying game files, but rather about unexpectedly exploiting existing systems.

The BB gun is normally only temporarily available to the player in the shooting range mini-game. However, when freely roaming, it appears to be able to damage NPCs. This suggests that the weapon isn’t just a decorative or score-focused tool in the game, but is actually programmed to inflict damage. Therefore, some players speculate that Rockstar may have planned to make the rifle usable in the open world during development.

Despite this, the weapon’s animations appear quite buggy. Furthermore, the fact that the rifle can be fired even in cutscenes suggests that this feature may have been an unfinished or later removed system. If Rockstar did indeed remove the rifle from free roaming, it was most likely due to the game’s school setting and the potential controversy surrounding the use of such a weapon.

Considering that Bully was released in 2006, shortly after the infamous Hot Coffee crisis in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Rockstar’s cautious approach seems quite understandable. At that time, the studio was already under intense media pressure. Therefore, removing the BB gun from the open world in the shooting range may have been a risk-reducing decision for the company. However, this discovery proves that Bully can still reveal new secrets to players even after almost 20 years.
