Control Resonant Even Put the RTX 5090 to the Test

Control Resonant, one of Remedy’s technically ambitious games, is preparing for release, and its PC performance results are quite impressive. The game, which stands out with its wide areas, advanced lighting, and ray tracing systems, places a significant hardware load, especially at native 4K resolution. In tests, even NVIDIA’s most powerful graphics cards, the RTX 5090, struggled to reach the 60 FPS mark when upscaling technologies were disabled.

Control Resonant Cannot Reach 60 FPS at Native 4K with RTX 5090

In tests conducted by TechPowerUp, the game was run at native 4K resolution and medium ray tracing settings. Without using DLSS or other upscaling technologies, the RTX 5090 remained at approximately 48 FPS. The RTX 5080, under the same conditions, dropped below 30 FPS. These results clearly show how heavily the game runs.

Control Resonant Even Put the RTX 5090 to the Test

One of the main reasons for this is that Control Resonant uses global illumination and built-in Path Tracing in all ray tracing presets. This means that the heavy calculations on the lighting side aren’t exclusive to the highest graphics option. Even at 1080p Ultra ray tracing, it’s stated that at least an RTX 4070-level graphics card is needed to approach 60 FPS without upscaling.

For gamers who want smoother performance at 4K resolution, DLSS, FSR, and NVIDIA Multi Frame Generation become almost mandatory. Lowering the settings is certainly possible, but since Path Tracing and RT global illumination work together, completely disabling upscaling technologies significantly impacts performance.

The resulting picture also shows that modern AAA games are increasingly relying on software-based image upscaling systems. In the case of Control Resonant, raw hardware power alone is not enough. The fact that even a high-end card like the RTX 5090 cannot reach 60 FPS at native 4K shows that DLSS and FSR are starting to become more than just extra performance options.
