GTA 5 Got its Police System Before GTA 6 was even Released
GTA 6 will offer a more detailed wanted system, as shown in the Extended Look video, where police don’t just track players based on their star level. According to shared information, police will be able to remember Jason and Lucia’s faces, clothing, the vehicle they used, and which character committed the crime. Mod developer andre500, not wanting to wait for the game’s release, recreated a significant portion of these mechanics with a new mod that works on GTA 5.
GTA 6 Police System Recreated with GTA 5 Mod
The mod, called VI Wanted System, was initially developed based on details from leaked gameplay footage. As more information about the system emerged with the official GTA 6 Extended Look video, the mod was shaped accordingly. Police can now remember a player’s face, clothing, and vehicle.
Once a wanted person is identified, a specific area of the map is marked with a red zone. As long as the player remains recognizable in this area, police pursuit can resume. Escape requires changing vehicles, wearing different clothes, or waiting for the face to be forgotten. This period can extend up to a week in-game, depending on the wanted level.
The wanted status is applied individually to each character in the mod. For example, even if Trevor reaches a five-star wanted level, Franklin is not automatically wanted by the police. This structure adapts the character-specific crime tracking system, which is said to be used for Jason and Lucia in GTA 6, to GTA 5.
The advanced version of the mod, available to Patreon subscribers, makes the system even more detailed. In this version, security camera footage, weapons used, and accomplice information are also added to police records. Thus, important parts of GTA 6’s more realistic police system can be tested in GTA 5 before the game’s release.
