There Are No Ghosts Reappeared at the Grand Gamescom
Developed by Friday Sundae, There Are No Ghosts at the Grand takes players to a dilapidated hotel on the English coast. The main character, Chris David, has only 30 days and 30 nights to restore The Grand, which he unexpectedly inherited. At first glance, it seems like a fairly calm renovation game, but it transforms into something completely different when the sun sets. Moreover, the game constantly reassures us that there are no ghosts, but even the title isn’t very convincing.
There Are No Ghosts at the Grand Offers Daytime Renovation, Nighttime Ghost Hunting
During the day, we paint the hotel walls, clean out old furniture, and make the building habitable again. This is done using sandblasters, paint guns, and even furniture-throwing vehicles. The funny thing is, some of these tools talk. Robert C MacBrushy, with his Scottish accent, makes it clear from the very first minutes of the game how bizarre his sense of humor is.
When night falls, these same tools transform into weapons against supernatural creatures. The vacuum cleaner can be used to attract ghosts, and the paint gun to reveal invisible enemies. So, the equipment you might use during the day to “tidy up this wall” can be used a few hours later to chase ghosts. The game’s most fun aspect is its seamless juxtaposition of these two different structures.
The coastal town surrounding The Grand will also be open to exploration. Players can renovate different buildings, meet townspeople, and solve small environmental puzzles. However, everyone is hiding something. Even Chris isn’t a very reliable narrator, according to the developers; so don’t immediately believe everything you see and hear.
And on top of all that, the game is musical. The characters we encounter have their own songs, and in some sections, we can even duet with them. Quite different styles, such as ska, punk, and wartime jazz, are directly woven into the story. There Are No Ghosts at the Grand is scheduled for release in the last quarter of 2026 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
