Canceled Content for Ghost Recon Project OVR has Leaked

The new Ghost Recon game, codenamed Project OVR, is back in the spotlight due to production issues. Unrealistic delivery dates and inadequate planning are alleged to have led to the project being scaled down, and new details have emerged about features that were either completely removed or postponed to later stages of development.

Features Removed from Ghost Recon Project OVR

According to leaked development documents, at least three features have been completely removed from Ghost Recon Project OVR. The first is proximity mines that players could place on the map. Secondly, the Workbench system, which was planned to offer more extensive equipment crafting and customization options, has been removed from the project. Weapon customization will remain in the game, but will be more limited than initially planned.

One of the most notable features completely canceled was helicopters. According to sources, the development team found it too risky to seamlessly integrate helicopters into the game within the planned timeline. While Project OVR was targeted to enter beta in November, it was assessed that this feature could lead to technical problems or further delays in the development schedule.

Some content was postponed to a later date instead of being completely removed. Development of the Camp Jammer ability, which disables systems in enemy camps, and the ability to rescue bound hostages has been temporarily halted. Work on these systems has not yet resumed. Features such as NPCs being able to execute hostages and firing from inside moving vehicles will be re-evaluated when the game reaches the alpha stage.

The new currency planned for use in the game, Cryptel, was also removed from the current development plan. Instead, Military Credits will be used for in-game purchases. Ubisoft has not yet made an official statement regarding these claims. While it’s unclear whether the removed content from Ghost Recon Project OVR will return in later updates, the reduction in scope suggests that priority has been given to getting the game ready for its targeted beta schedule.
