Ed Sheeran Spoke About his Game of Thrones Role
Game of Thrones fans will remember a short but much-talked-about scene in the seventh season. This cameo, in which famous musician Ed Sheeran stepped into Westeros as one of the Lannister soldiers, caused a great deal of controversy when it aired. Years later, Sheeran spoke again about the reactions to that scene. It seems that his brief role in Game of Thrones created a much bigger buzz for the artist than he expected.
Game of Thrones Cameo Back in the Spotlight Years Later
Ed Sheeran, in a podcast he participated in, talked about his Game of Thrones experience and the reactions it received at the time. According to the famous artist, his participation in the series was actually a very simple decision. Sheeran says that when he receives an offer from such a popular production, “it’s hard to say no” and that he enjoyed being a part of the project.
However, after the scene aired, it elicited a much harsher reaction on social media than expected. Sheeran says he received intense criticism, particularly on social media, at the time, which was quite surprising to him.
According to the artist, one reason for the reactions was that his popularity was at its peak at the time. Sheeran says that people saw him everywhere, and therefore his appearance in Westeros, a dark fantasy universe, may have seemed “strange” to some viewers.
Nevertheless, Sheeran admits he didn’t expect such a strong reaction. He points out that other musicians also had small cameo roles in the series, and believes his scene attracted attention because it was more visible. Despite the years that have passed, that short scene in Game of Thrones remains one of the most talked-about cameo moments in the show.
